A Lenten concert in the warm acoustics of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church will end our 24th season. Hear the traditional lamentations of Thomas Tallis and Dominique Phinot, the stunning ‘Miserere’ by Scottish composer James MacMillan, as well as contemporary lamentations such as ‘Take him Earth For Cherishing’ by Howells and ‘Last Lullaby’ by UNT student Samuel Sweet, remembering the students killed at Sandy Hook.

This powerful oratorio, which evokes Pennsylvania coal-mining life, won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize in Music. Called “unforgettably haunting” by the LA Times, this one-hour piece is set to archival footage of coal country, providing context for the dreamlike composition.
